Officials at the Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported that a fire broke out early Sunday morning at a Glen Burnie, Maryland, senior citizens midrise complex on Crain Highway. The senior escaped serious injury when the wheelchair he was sitting in caught fire and filled the first floor of the complex with smoke. When firefighters arrived they found the senior sitting in the electronic wheelchair, which was on fire. Clarksburg teen paralyzed in accident to get service dog – Part 2

This week’s post will continue the story about a Clarksburg teen who is excited about finally receiving a service dog to help him get some independence back in his life after being severely injured and paralyzed four years ago. The teen was struck by a police patrol car while crossing the street in front of his home. The now 16-year-old will continue his occupational therapy at an international spinal cord injury center in Baltimore, Maryland, where he has been working with a therapist since the accident that left him paralyzed.

Four years ago a Clarksburg teen was injured by a Montgomery County police cruiser driven by an off-duty officer while he was crossing the street in front of his home. The now 16-year-old suffered permanent brain damage and spinal cord injuries and is now a quadriplegic. Montgomery County rear-end crash injures six, three critically

Although car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in this country, it is always a shock when it happens to someone you know and love. Baltimore County Police said a 39-year-old woman who was hit by a car last December has recently died and an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The fatal accident occurred two days before Christmas near Rolling Road and the 6200 block of Baltimore National Pike. Research suggest new therapy for spinal cord injury victims

Maryland residents might be interested to learn about a new Japanese research study involving an oral drug that has been shown to lessen the outbreak of human multiple sclerosis and slow some of its physical problems now looks promising for treating injuries to the spinal cord as well. The drug studied was FTY720, also known as Gilenya, was shown to improve some of the motor functions in mice with spinal cord injuries. Forest Hill man dies in three-car collision in Creswell, Maryland

Maryland State Police are investigating a three-car collision in Creswell that happened last week that left one man dead. Police did not report on the condition of the driver of the third vehicle involved in the crash.
