Burn Injuries Archives

House fire in Falls Church kills 2

Personal injury can take many forms, including burns from fires and chemicals. A burn injury is not only extremely painful; it can result in financial losses from medical expenses and lost wages. The following account illustrates how devastating burn injuries in a house fire can be.

Maryland woman suffers serious burns in bizarre accident

There are some activities that carry an inherent risk, one that we accept because the activity is a part of our daily lives. For example, we know that every time we get behind the wheel or ride as a passenger in someone else's car, there is at least some chance of getting into an accident. Other times accidents can seem to come out of nowhere, with little to no explanation. These events can be not only devastating, but difficult to sort out when it comes to assigning liability and properly compensating victims.

Fireworks injuries have East Coast authorities revisiting laws

As is the case every July 4th holiday, a slew of injuries resulting from fireworks are making the rounds in the Maryland media. Last week three children and several others were injured in various accidents involving fireworks in one state. Three children suffered such serious burn injuries they had to be airlifted to local hospitals for treatment. One of the accidents involved four youngsters setting off a batch of sparklers inside a bottle causing the bottle to explode.
Another accident in a different state injured 13 people, including three children who were all burned. Some of the victims were seriously injured when a firework went astray igniting the supplies of what was supposed to be a large fireworks display in a residential neighborhood. The accident resulted in the removal of 90 cases of fireworks from the home. Fireworks are by their very nature dangerous and every year result in serious burns and disfigurement to those either involved in their lighting or standing nearby.

Glen Burnie senior injured when wheel chair starts on fire

Officials at the Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported that a fire broke out early Sunday morning at a Glen Burnie, Maryland, senior citizens midrise complex on Crain Highway. The senior escaped serious injury when the wheelchair he was sitting in caught fire and filled the first floor of the complex with smoke. When firefighters arrived they found the senior sitting in the electronic wheelchair, which was on fire.

With summer upon us, think about safety when grilling outdoors

With summer on the way and grilling season upon us it is a good time to remind people to be diligent about safety, especially around young children when operating an outdoor grill. Maryland residents might be interested in a story about a young boy who received burn injuries in an explosion after his mother attempted to light an outdoor barbecue last Sunday.
