Three injured in multi-vehicle crash on Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Most people commuting on their way home from work are just glad their workday is over. They're looking forward to having dinner with their family, going out with friends or simply just relaxing in front of the television. What they don't expect is to be involved in a major accident that ties up traffic for hours.

Residents of Maryland may be interested to hear of an accident involving multiple vehicles that resulted in injuries to three individuals. Around 6:00 p.m. a vehicle in the westbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tried to move over into the next lane when it struck a second vehicle also heading westbound. The first vehicle was then sent into an eastbound lane of traffic where it collided with a third vehicle. However, it did not strike the third vehicle head-on. The impact of that crash sent the first car back into the westbound lanes of traffic where it collided with a fourth vehicle.

Two individuals involved in the crash had to be air lifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The severity of their injuries has not yet been released. A third individual was hospitalized at a nearby facility with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening. The incident caused the westbound lanes of traffic to be closed for a number of hours while an investigation and clean up occurred, causing significant traffic delays.

When an accident involves multiple vehicles, it makes determining who is liable for the crash more complicated. Say car A crashes into car B, causing car B to crash into car C. Will car A be liable for damages to car B and car C? Will car B face any liability for striking car C? These are all the kinds of details that take a good deal of legal knowledge and experience to unravel. Therefore, individuals involved in multi-vehicle car accidents may want to discuss the matter with an attorney, so that the appropriate parties can be held responsible for the crash.
