Montgomery County rear-end crash injures six, three critically

Although car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in this country, it is always a shock when it happens to someone you know and love. Earlier this month six people were injured when an SUV crashed into the rear of another SUV causing one of the vehicles to overturn and eject two people. A third person in that SUV was trapped inside.

All six of the injured were taken to trauma centers in the area. Three of the victims received life-threatening injuries, while two were reported as having suffered serious injuries. The sixth person received minor injuries in the car accident. The crash occurred on the inner loop at the northbound ramp of River Road leading to the Beltway, according to the Montgomery County assistant fire chief.

Rear-end accidents are notorious for causing serious injuries to the head and neck, including traumatic brain injuries. A sudden jolt to the head and neck can cause the brain to collide with the inside of the skull which can result in permanent injury to the brain or spinal cord. Rear-end collisions often result in personal injury claims due to the seriousness of the injuries caused.

Although there is no report as to the cause of this particular accident many states have liability laws regarding rear-end collisions. When a person's actions are responsible for the personal injuries of another he or she can be held liable for the damages caused. In this case the damages could be extensive medical expenses since so many people were injured in the accident. Even if you are a passenger in a vehicle that causes the accident you could be entitled to damages from the driver who caused your injuries.
